With a forecast for rain throughout the day on Wednesday, we planned on returning Deanna's graduation robe to the bookstore and assumed we'd find a museum to help us spend a soggy day in New York City.
However, as we emerged from the dark subway at 110th Street station at the Columbia main campus, the sun had peeked out from the dark sky and we made a snap decision. We had come to New York for graduation and Deanna had really earned the right to celebrate. Bubbles donned her robe and turned to the left to find her way to the graduates entrance. The Prince of Darkness turned to the right and meandered his way through the assembled throng to find a position on the quad opposite the podium to witness the proceedings.
Each dean presented the candidates from their disciplines and begged the president to accept them and give them their diplomas. The weather cooperated and began to rain again only after the ceremony concluded.
At the conclusion of the festivities, we walked to the bookstore and returned the rented gown
